IaidO
At Gyodokan, we practice Muso Shinden Ryu, a traditional Japanese martial art focused in drawing and cutting with a Japanese sword (katana). Iaido is a martial art that emphasizes the swift and precise drawing of the sword to respond to sudden threats or attacks. It involves a series of kata, or pre-arranged forms, that practitioners perform solo. These kata include drawing the sword, cutting down an imaginary opponent, and resheathing the sword. Muso Shinden Ryu places great importance on the principles of correct posture, robust physical training, breathing, and mental focus. It seeks to develop not only physical skill but also mental discipline and awareness.
The art was transmitted to our teacher Ismail Hasan, by the senseis Kazuo Chiba and Mitsuzuka Takeshi. Notably, Mitsuzuka sensei was a direct student of Nakayama Hakudo, the founder of Muso Shinden Ryu. At Gyodokan we endeavor to honor the tradition and heritage of this martial art.
